Why I built this site.
I have loved music most of my life and jazz since I was in high school in the 1960's. I think it is because of the almost infinite variety os forms that make up jazz that intrigues me. I have been building websites off and on for about 10 years now, so I felt the need to try and show the evolution of jazz from it's beginnings to the present day and beyond. I think jazz is one of those things you either love or hate. I hope that by sampling the different forms of jazz, you will find a style that appeals to you, too. Here's a little video to show you how the people felt about it in 1920, when it was first becoming popular. Reminds me of my parents reaction when I started listening to rock and roll in the 50s! About Me
My name is Bill and I live in Ellenton, Florida, USA. I'm 59 years old, married and have 3 step children and 5 step grand children. I'm retired on medical disability.
I have an Associate of Science degree in electronics which I earned in 1969. PCs were only a dream back than! All my computer knowledge has come from reading and a lot of trial and error. I assembled my first "real" computer, a P136, DOS, Win 98 to save money. I really thought it was great! I didn't even have an internet connection, but I learned a lot from it. I actually had 4 different operating systems running on it! Win 98, 2 Linux version and IBM OS Warp!
In addition to building web sites I enjoy fishing, cooking and listening to all types of music, yes even classical. I'm not much on TV and probably could live without it.
About the site
This site uses a css template from doTemplate. This is a free, online template service. While they have a limited assortment of templates, you can customize the colors and several other variables and than download all the css files. CSS is something I haven't mastered yet! The video players are JW players. They work great and are the best I've found. All videos on this site came from public domain sources.
While I tried to include a video for each type and style of jazz it was impossible to include all the great jazz artists over the years. If you have a video of your favorite artist and would like it included on this site, please email me here and I'll see what I can do. You're comments are always welcome!
